A tropical evergreen tree, up to 50ft/15m high with stiff sharp spines, smooth ovate leaves, small white flowers and bluish-white berries.

Characteristics:
Leaves and twigs yield a yellow to brownish oil, with a warm spicy, somewhat harsh odour. It blends well with frankincense, ylang ylang, orange, mandarin and benzoin.

Safety Data:
The leaf oil is relatively nontoxic, though possibly a skin irritant. Its major component, eugenol, causes irritation to the mucous membrane. Use in moderation. The bark oil should not be used on the skin.
