Zingiber Officinale

Description:

An erect perennial herb, up to 3ft/1m high, with a thick, spreading tuberous rhizomatous root, which is very pungent. The green, reed like stalk, with narrow, spear-shaped leaves and white or yellow flowers grow up from the root.

Actions:

Analgesic, antioxidant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aperitif, aphrodisiac, bactericidal, carminative, cephalic, expectorant, febrifuge, laxative, rubifacient, stimulant, stomachic, tonic.

Extraction:

The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the unpeeled, dried, ground roots.

Characteristics:

A pale yellow, amber or greenish liquid with a warm, slightly green, fresh, woody-spicy scent. It blends well with sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, frankincense, rosewood, cedarwood, coriander, rose, lime, neroli, orange and lemon.
